Mawwage

That bwessed event.

But seriously, what is marriage? To the modern Xian, it is a union between one man and one woman, which they claim it has always been, as ordained by god. Many Xians I've met have also shown disdain for Mormons (who are technically also Xians, which is denied by most non-Mormon Xians) for the Mormons' views historical and present on polygamy. 'That's not what god had in mind,' they claim. So, why does god - through the Bible - not seem to have a problem (at the very least) with polygamy?

Abraham, Lamech, Esau, and Jacob all had multiple wives and that's just in Genesis! Exodus and Deuteronomy both lay down the foundations for laws on having multiple wives instead of banning it (why would god set down laws for how to do something that he didn't want his children to do?) Later, King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines (how did he find time for them all?) And, we even see references in the NT in Mathew 25 to 10 virgins going to marry one man.

How is it that some people can be so ignorant of the religion that they supposedly hold so dear and use it as a cudgel against others? Have they no shame?

Wow, I never thought of that scripture in that way before. Not that I think it is the actual interpretive meaning, but something to think about.

It is a good way to shut down the 'gays should be allowed to marry' argument. Just ask if we should ALSO allow polygamy.

Works every time.

(Although I am in no way opposed to civil unions between any number of people. Companies have the absolute right to withhold benefits to multiple spouses, as they do to one spouse. Ergo, that argument is a strawman.)

I just like stirring the pot. Makes the soup taste better.

This is not on point for this thread, but as we are limited to responding to new theads, perhaps the owner could appease answers to my question.

What is the law on responding to blogs? Is it an open forum where you can respond in anyway you chose (except, I would suppose, for overt threats of physical or property damage)?

Gawd!! Doesn't jesus ever get tired of ass fucking people? I have learned how to day trade pretty well and don't often lose money; however, I'm routinely jacked out of making any large sum.

Jesus the fucking (asshole) christ apparently realizing that I've learned this skill, never-the-less always creates some website malfunction or other distractions (like a cousin who comes up with the most incredible bullshit interruptions to disrupt my timing) when I stand in a position to really make a profit.

Take for example, today a stock called Baidu reported earnings. I patiently awaited the report with my alleged "real time news" software; however, it malfunctioned and I received no earnings report. By the time I realized that the earnings were favorable, the stock had gone from $287 to $327 where it has maxed out.

FUCK YOU JESUS CHRIST YOU PATHETIC FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!

I seriously believe Christianity should be treated as an illness.

I know so many people suffering from it.

chronic symptoms include:

Thinking they know what's right on every matter, void of reason or logic

Believing prayers will bring magic to fix their lives

Spent hours condemning others because they don't believe what they do

They believe sitting in a lavish building every Sunday gives them clean slate for everything.

What works every time? Making a slippery slope argument?

This blog is pretty open. There has never (to my knowledge) been a single comment moderated on this blog. Of course, no one has resorted to physical threats either, so that line has not been tested.

Your point is well taken with xtians re: Mormons and polygomy; however, I think the deeper difference is Joseph Smith's ascertion that he was a prophet who received sacred scrolls from God. Attempting to reconcile xtian belief in the assertion that Moses received tablets from god now becomes quite interesting.

Good point.
