Make No Mistake

I've previously talked about god lying to us through his retelling of the creation of the universe, but I'd like to expand on that. Any instance of an error in the Bible is evidence that god is lying to you (provided that god exists and wrote the Bible, as some believe).

How can I make such a broad and sweeping statement? It's actually rather easy. god is providing information to us through the Bible. If that information is incorrect, then god is providing false information. Now, god could be mistaken, but then that would violate the tenet that god is infallible and perfect, so any "mistake" in the Bible must have been intentional. Therefore, all mistakes in the Bible are intentional mistatements by god, hence they are lies. Given the large number of Biblical mistakes, this means that god lies quite a bit.

I have spoken with many christians in my years, none of which claims that god wrote the bible, it was written by humans. Which leads way to their poor excuse that the mistakes or errors in the bible are because man, who was interpreting god's word, is not perfect and prone to error even in there documentation. Which in turn brings up another problem why would god pick such people that he should know are more than likely going to screw up his message...and the cycle of poor reasoning on the part of the christian continues.

I have been reading over your blog for the past few weeks and have enjoyed the commentary. Pushing for a higher level of awareness and reason I think should be the personal mission of all people, lets hope that more trend toward this in the near future.

Seems that when I say that there are mistakes in the bible, some fundy-mental will demand proof. So, I took a half an hour out of my wonderful day and researched three big ones. http://superstitionfree.blogspot.com/2008/09/three-mistakes-in-bible.html

Sir Douglas,
There are even more problems the further you dig down...like why would god allow his message to be corrupted, etc.

I'm surprised, however, that the Xians you talk to all say the Bible was written by men. The normal apologetic that I'm used to is that the Bible is the infallible word of god. It was written by man, as in they put pen to paper (so to speak) but with divine inspiration from god, so that the verses would be error free and the direct words of god. Hence, the Bible is god's personal literary work.

Robert,
Great work on your list.

It's not? Who gave you that idea?

GCT. I know that you prefer logical and rational discussion over rage and anger.

Sometimes it is good to just vent though. I've been known to do it from time to time.

I like to vent every now and then too.

Even if god wrote it there has been quite some translations by now, but it's very true that some belive it's pretty much word by word the word of god. So thanx for pointing that out. I'd love for a Christan to realy truly get out of that one :-D

P.S. Check out my blog for some good venting ;-)
