Pork

OK. So, god comes down and decides that pork is bad, immoral, sinful. "Don't eat it," he says. Why? Because it is immoral, bad, and sinful of course. If you eat it, then you are deserving of eternal torment and punishment.

Or, maybe the ancient Jews ate some pork and some got sick from trichinosis, because they didn't prepare it correctly. So, they made a rule that one shouldn't eat pork and they claimed it was from god to add moral and authoritative weight to it.

Which one is more parsimonious?

Even if it were the first, why would god make this rule? Did he make it in order to protect the Jews? It seems rather weird to enact a rule to protect people and then punish them for eternity with torture if they don't follow the rule. So, even if this did come from god, it doesn't make sense. Once again, we see the Xian myth as less than sensible.

All everyday people :)

In all honesty thought I am sorry you hate Jesus, He has made such a difference in my life. Take care.

Cristina,
"...maybe one day there will be a spark and He will open your eyes to truth."

Although it is possible, that ship has most likely sailed. I used to be a Xian, and god never "open[ed] my eyes" then. In fact, the majority of atheists that I know were once Xians, which debunks the claim that god speaks to all those who seek him with an open heart.

I'll take that any day.

"In all honesty thought I am sorry you hate Jesus..."

It's actually hyperbole - it's impossible to hate a fictitious entity.

Were you a xian by birth {i mean, for example, your parents were Catholic so you said you were Catholic}? or in practice?

If in practice, how long did it take to let go of all the indoctrination and fear of god's hell?

Why are you glad?

What do questions have to do with the spark of belief? You believe your god has planned out everything that has and will happen, don't you? If you don't believe that, then you don't believe in an all-powerful god.

But if your god does know everything, and has planned out everything, then whatever you think or don't think, do or don't do, doesn't come from you.

All that you think and do has got nothing to do with you, and everything to do with god. You're just a robot, by your own irrational belief system, Cristina (and with a name like that, I imagine it would be difficult not to be an Xian - good luck coming to your senses).

Although I didn't attend church often as a child, I certainly believed in god and prayed to him. I know of others who were fundamentalists as well that are now atheists.

"If in practice, how long did it take to let go of all the indoctrination and fear of god's hell?"

I was lucky. I was never indoctrinated or attacked with the fear of hell as a child.
